Yarnworker Community Guidelines

YarnworkerU is hosted by me, Liz Gipson. This space is for weavers who love to weave on a rigid-heddle loom and want to gain more know-how to increase their personal joy at the loom.

Community spaces within the Yarnworker sphere are focused on rigid-heddle weaving and does not cover other loom types. Some of the information may reference or apply to other looms or weaving in general. The support you will find here is rigid-heddle focused.

All yarn welcome! While I may offer advice about why one yarn is better than another for a given project, there is no yarn that you can’t weave with.  The school’s focus is on offering know-how to weave using materials you have and that will get you the results you want.

All people are welcome! As a largely virtual space, the Yarnworker community is comprised of folks from all walks of life—all nationalities, all cultures, all colors, all ethnicities, all genders and gender identities, all religions, all sexual orientations, all ages, all sizes, all abilities, all people from all sorts of families, and all are welcome. Those who hang in this space agree that weaving is tops and we want to grow our weaving skills in an environment that is encouraging, inclusive, and informative.

The forum space is for members of the Yarnworker School to ask questions; share what’s on their loom and finished and in-progress projects; and chat with their fellow weavers about weaving-related interests.

By participating in the Yarnworker forums, you agree to the following community guidelines.

Focus This space is for sharing rigid-heddle weaving-related information. Each section has a different purpose

Details! Weavers love details. When sharing your work, consider including the yarn, sett, loom type, pattern used, lesson’s learned, and other weaverly details.

Be Helpful, Not Harmful  The goal of these conversations is to help each other out with our weaving conundrums, to celebrate our successes, and to get support when things aren’t going as planned. Personal attacks, hate speech, or violating the privacy of others will not be tolerated.

Respect Publishing Rights All Yarnworker-related text and photos are fair game to share in this forum. Please do not excerpt from non-Yarnworker designs, published works, or online discussions in this space. This includes screen grabs, excerpted information from other published work, blogs, or online discussions. Instead share direct links, page numbers and sources, or paraphrase the information.

Please No Advertising, Selling, Trading, or Promotion As a discussion forum, please do not post ads, sell, or trade via these groups. Ebay,  Facebook Weaving Buy-Sell-Trade Group, or Ravelry’s Fiber Flea Market Group may be options.

Live Streams hosted on the Livestream page and informal Zoom gatherings are just for pledging members follows the same community guidelines, as do other public comments posted on the Missives or blog posts at Yarnworker.com.

I personally moderate all these spaces. If you feel something needs to be brought to my attention, please email me at worker@yarnworker.com.
